Statement about insurance.
A contractor or client company considering employing me in a work-for-hire or W2 arrangement could ask me about what insurance of my own I carry.
I do have my own health insurance as a retiree from a previous long-term employer.
I do not have my own workman’s compensation, unemployment, professional liability, errors and omissions or media perils policy.
I work out of my apartment home and do not have coverage above ordinary renter’s coverage.
Generally, I would only be able to afford these kinds of coverages (and commercial office space) if a potential client offers enough long-term business to cover the considerable costs of these items. In theory, with enough business I could hire my own subcontractors or even employees with benefits.
However, I have discussed the process of obtaining liability insurance coverage with insurance agents and I am familiar with the costs and issues.
