Fundamental Moral Questions

Should adults have the right to set their own personal priorities in life without taking care of others besides themselves? Is the freedom implied in self-ownership fundamental to all subsequent moral behavior? Are we heading towards a society in which every adult must fend for himself, or do we need to build responsibility for others into our paradigm and moral expectations for personal responsibility?
