COPA -- Access to 03/22/2007 Opinion
Judge Lowell Reed issued his ruling on the Child Online Protection Act of 1998 (COPA) on Thursday March 22, 2007.
The Opinion is 84 pages long and has five sections: (1) Procedural History (2) The Relevant Language of COPA and the Constitution (3) Findings of Fact (4) Conclusions of Law, and (5) Comclusions.
The official document reads "In the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania: American Civil Liberties Union, et al. v. Alberto R. Gonzales, in his official capacity as Attorney General of the United States". Civil Action No. 98-5591.
The easiest place to access the PDF document is at the ACLU, here: This will load the PDF document onto your computer as long as you have Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 or higher. To download the reader free (this does not allow you to created PDf documents, just read them) go to Adobe's home page.
If you want to save the PDF court document on your computer and not open it, you may go here at ACLU instead.
The Eastern District index to its opinions is here COPA does not yet appear, but it probably will shortly. (This writeup was created Monday March 26, 2007).
I cannot yet find this opinion at FindLaw.
I don't plan to store the text of the opinion on this domain or my blogs right now, as, on a go forward basis, I don't want to generate excessive duplication for search engines. I do have older documents, and since they are public domain, anyone can exhibit them. If this document becomes harder to access or moves frequently (as have other documents in the past), I may provide my own copy from thsi domain in the future.
